Here at the Research Triangle Foundation, we are proud to be hosting the 2016 Susan G. Komen Triangle Race For the Cure at The Frontier. The 20th Anniversary Race for the Cure, brought to us by the North Carolina Triangle to the Coast affiliate of Susan G. Komen, will take place this Saturday, June 11 beginning at 7am. If you are attending the race, here is a handy-dandy Q&A with all the details:
Q: “Where is the race?”
A: The race takes place in RTP, beginning and ending at The Frontier. The Frontier is located at 800 Park Office Drive in Durham. It is a big blue and tan building with an Airstream trailer out back, you can’t miss it!
Q: “What do I wear?”
A: Wear something comfortable. Keep in mind that it will be very hot, so think loose, breathable fabrics. Dress up and have fun! Wear Komen pink running shoes, jogging shorts, or a tutu! We want everyone to feel comfortable and have fun, so wear what you feel best in!
Q: “What should I bring?”
A: It’s really up to you, but there are a few things that you might want to have: sunscreen and a hat to avoid getting sunburned, a water bottle to ensure that you stay hydrated, and a phone to capture a selfie while crossing the finish line! There will be lots of food trucks and Komen swag, so be sure to bring cash as well!
Q: “Should I bring my kids?”
A: Yes! Kids are welcome at the Race for the Cure. If your little one wants to race, they may participate in the free Kids Dash for 3-5 year olds (sign up in the Family Fun Zone). Strollers are permitted, and the Family Fun Zone will feature games, cartoon & mascot visits, and activities for kids of all ages. Food trucks will also be available where you can purchase lunch and snacks.
Q: “Can I bring my dog?”
A: No. We absolutely adore pups, but we ask that you leave them at home for this event.
Q: “Where should I park?”
A: This depends on a few factors. Handicapped parking is available directly on site at The Frontier (you just need a state-issued handicap tag). If you are carpooling with 3 or more total passengers, you may park in the carpool lot about 1/4 mile from the building (follow the instructions here). All others will use the free park and ride lot. We encourage those with accessibility issues to use this option, as the bus will drop you off right on site. For a summary of all parking information, please click here.
Q: “What do I do once I’ve parked?”
A: When you arrive, proceed to the registration table in Race Town at The Frontier. Once you’ve checked in, you are welcome to mingle and have fun until your race! You will find lots to see and do. There will be live music, course entertainment, a flyover, and a Survivor Celebration with breakfast to honor all the amazing breast cancer survivors at the Race.
Q: “What should I expect?”
A: Expect to have fun. Expect to sweat. Expect to be inspired. Expect to experience hope. Expect to experience community like you have never experienced before.
Q: “Is it too late to register?”
A: Not at all! You can register all the way up until 9am on race day. Online registration is available until midnight on Thursday, June 9 by clicking here. On-site registration will be available Friday at The Frontier from 10:30 am to 7pm and on Race Day from 7 to 9am. If you have registered but need to pick up your packet, click here for more information.
Q: “I can’t race but would love to donate…how can I do that?”
A: Thank you for helping to change the lives of those affected by breast cancer. Click here to donate now.
