Located in RTP since 2008, the National Inclusion Project actively works to create inclusive experiences for all kids. The organization was founded in 2003 by Clay Aiken and Diane Clay to “encourage and facilitate community inclusion and empowerment” for all people with disabilities. Today, the organization has collaborated with a bevy of youth serving organizations such as the YMCA, Boys & Girls Clubs, 4H, and John’s Hopkins University’s National Center for Summer Learning to create programs that are inclusive. The organization also has a ton of great resources online, and even offers training sessions for organization interested in expanding staff knowledge about inclusion.
Since moving to The Frontier in 2015, the National Inclusion Project has quickly become an asset to the community. They regularly hold events at the space, and have partnered with other tenants on projects and workshops held across the state. When filming their Pioneer Profile, the National Inclusion Project asked if we could film one of their training sessions, and of course we said, “Yes!” Be sure to check out the video to see how this organization encourages educators to use familiar games as just one way to include all youth in play time.
