RTP Employee Art Show Winners Selected

Last week was the kickoff for RTP’s inaugural, start-2016-with-a-bang, RTP Employee Art Exhibition. Dr. Lawrence Wheeler, Director of the North Carolina Museum of Art, selected the winners in person and gave a great presentation. Dr. Wheeler told the audience that inspired design and inspired innovation lend themselves to one another. These are ideals we certainly believe that here at The Frontier: beautiful places can encourage a community to form that is a force to be reckoned with and, likewise, this kind of community can help to create a beautiful place.

At the event, Dr. Wheeler awarded prizes based upon those pieces submitted to the show. I am pleased to announce our three winners:

1st Place Award: “The Ritual” by Justin Storms, Membership Coordinator at Sigma Xi

2nd Place Award: “Daybreak” by Anne-Marie Santoro, Director, Business and Field Operations at GlaxoSmithKline

3rd Place Award: “Going Big” by Dean Logan, Squatter (what we call regulars that we love) at The Frontier & Creative Director at MiPayWay

The winner of the RTF (Research Triangle Foundation) Staff Choice Award and the People’s Choice Award will be announced at the conclusion of the show once votes are cast, so come by The Frontier and cast your vote! This show is available for viewing during normal business hours Monday through Friday in the Atrium at The Frontier. Many works are available for purchase, but must remain hanging in the show until the exhibition’s conclusion on March 11. )All transactions must be handled directly between artist and patron – The Frontier is not taking any commission from the show.)

Huge thanks to Triangle ArtWorks and Durham Art Guild for contributing to the great success of this show!

We are also working on a few other initiatives that you should be on the lookout for:

Open Walls Program – Commission-free wall space for arts organizations to display work for sale. Application and more information in link.

Coloring Sesh – The Frontier staff has organized a designated time to unwind and decompress through coloring.  From 11:00-12:00 join us and other big kids for a coloring session. Please note this event has moved from The Bridge to The Home Base (the large open area right when you walk in at The Frontier).

Have a crazy idea of your own? Email Jacob Newbauer (newbauer@rtp.org) to see if we can collaborate and make some other programs come to life. I’m talking pop-up operas, flash dance mobs, even more art exhibitions – the sky’s the limit!

All of these kinds of programs are made stronger through our partnership with Triangle ArtWorks. Our staff is seeking to make The Frontier not only open to the arts but a place where the arts are celebrated, welcome and have a spot at the table. If you are interested in staying in the loop about what we are up to please contact Jacob Newbauer to be added to the list of interested folks who receive occasional e-mails about what’s happening.
